Rory McIlroy came back on strong on Friday at The Barclays with a second-round 65 to get him into contention on the weekend as he tries to win his fourth straight tournament.

He was one off the round of the day pace set by Jason Day and Henrik Stenson with dueling 64s.

After a sloppy 74 on Thursday, McIlroy turned the "can't get it done on Fridays" narrative on its head once again with six birdies to no bogeys at Ridgewood Country Club.

"The work that I did yesterday on the range really helped, just sort of got back into the rhythm and into the flow of things," McIlroy said. "I knew that my game was there and I just needed to take advantage of the chances I was giving myself."

He did that and then some on Friday as he bombed away and fired at pins all afternoon.

Here's a look at his card:

So now McIlroy sits T27 after 36 holes but with a gaggle of stars in front of him, including leader Adam Scott who is at 8 under.

McIlroy said on Thursday that missing the cut was "not an option" and he proved that on Friday.

The Ulsterman is trying to become just the fifth golfer ever to win four straight tournaments on the PGA Tour.
