Expert Picks: Crowne Plaza Invitational
Each week during the official PGA Tour season, CBSSports.com's Steve Elling and Shane Bacon give their best shot at pegging the winner and seeing what other golfers will have a good week. The picks are based on a combination of homework, guesswork and just plain instinct.

![]() Rickie Fowler |
Hey, why not go with the hot hand? He won for the first time at Quail Hollow, finished second a week later at Sawgrass, then tied a course record at the difficult Medalist Golf Club in South Florida last week. Fowler will need to be at his ball-striking best, but he's clearly playing better than at any point in his young pro career with three straight top-10 finishes in PGA Tour play. Odds to win tournament: (16 to 1) |
![]() David Toms |
I really like the defending champion to repeat this week, just because it appears the guy absolutely loves this golf course. He won here in 2011, but the 13-time PGA Tour winner has finished in the top 20 seven times at Colonial, and is coming off a great finish at the Players two weeks ago. Toms is 20 under over his last five rounds at Colonial. Odds to win tournament: (28 to 1) |

![]() Zach Johnson |
Johnson has a real shot at winning two weeks ago at Sawgrass before Matt Kuchar beat everybody down the stretch, and the former Ryder Cupper has played some of his best golf at Hogan's Alley, aka, Colonial. In six starts, he has never finished outside the top 30, and in his last three appearances, he has a victory, a T9 and a fourth. Overdue for a win, too. Odds to win tournament: (14 to 1) |
![]() Jim Furyk |
This guy is an absolute top-10 machine at Colonial, finishing 10th or better six times in his career at the Crowne Plaza Invitational. Furyk has had a sneaky good season in 2012, losing in a playoff at the Transitions only to finish 11th or better in three of his next five events, and is coming off a top-25 at the Players Championship. Look for Furyk to have another solid week at that gem of a golf course in Texas. Odds to win tournament: (33 to 1) |

![]() Harris English |
A rookie, English was squarely in the mix at Sawgrass after 36 holes, then conked a marshall in the head in the third round, causing a bloody wound, and fell apart. But he is certainly recovered his mojo. On Monday, English shot 60 in the morning round to win a British Open qualifier outside Dallas and was 17 under for his 36 holes. Odds to win tournament: (66 to 1) |
![]() Bo Van Pelt |
I like having my sleepers as guys that are coming in playing inspired golf and that have had some success at this golf course before. Van Pelt is both of those things, coming off a T-7 at TPC Sawgrass and a third place finish at Colonial a year ago and a T-10 in 2010. This golf course seems to set up well for Van Pelt, who is looking for his second career PGA Tour win. Odds to win tournament: (28 to 1) |
