2014 Masters round three: Best photos, attire, and commentary
All the news, updates, tweets, and photos you can handle from day three at the 78th Masters at Augusta National. What will Fred Couples, Adam Scott, and Bubba Watson do?
Saturday was quite a bit of fun with the Bubba coaster, Spieth show, and Kuchar and Fowler charging. It sets up for an eventful Sunday, too.
We tried to document all the happenings on this post as they happened all day. The best photos, tweets, attire and more from Saturday's third round at the Masters.
7:21 PM: Just going to leave this right here...
7:10 PM: Sorry, I got a little distracted by that ending. The youngster, what a show. Sunday should be awesome. Enjoy it.
6:17 PM: If you aren't following Ian Poulter on Twitter, you should be. He weighed in on the greens after his round:
6:04 PM: That little guy isn't doing what Bubba wants on the greens today:
6:03 PM: I'm guessing this is correct:
Adam Scott with 32 putts with two holes left. I’ve never played Augusta, but I’m assuming that isn’t how you score.— Shane Bacon (@shanebacon) April 12, 2014
5:55 PM: Yes sir.
Jordan Spieth eats Chick Fil-A on Sundays.— No Laying Up (@NoLayingUp) April 12, 2014
5:45 PM: 296 straight holes for Bubba with no three putts. Two in the last six holes.
5:30 PM: Spieth is getting a little dramatic on the course. Don't go Bubba on us!
5:20 PM: Fred Couples won't go away. He's back to 2 under for the tournament. Alligator blood.
5:08 PM: Jordan Spieth is about four inches from being two shots better than he is right now. Left a putt two inches short on No. 11 and again on No. 12. Fascinated to see how he closes.
4:59 PM: Matty Kuchar makes the three-way tie a four-way tie with a birdie at No. 15.
4:57 PM: Lynn Swann looks like he could still bang out a corner post or two:
4:51 PM: Couples birdies No. 11 and the place explodes. Ain't no roar like a Freddie roar at Augusta.
4:46 PM: Gosh, this is fun. Here's your current leaderboard:
4:40 PM: Wow, Bubba's lead is gone. Blixt, Bjorn, and Bubba all share the chase.
4:34 PM: This is just spectacular:
4:29 PM: It appears the tension is really getting to Jordan Spieth:
4:22 PM: If you follow Bubba this is quite funny:
Ted Scott is making a mess of the 7th hole.— No Laying Up (@NoLayingUp) April 12, 2014
4:15 PM: No Cabrara but the Danish Cabrera and the Spanish Cabrera (Thomas Bjorn and Miguel Angel Jimenez) are in the mix. Not a lot of Fs given between those two folks.
4:12 PM: If my math is correct (and that's a big if) Bubba Watson just three-putted for the first time in 297 holes on the PGA Tour.
4:05 PM: Jim Nantz looks twice as big as Rickie Fowler.
3:50 PM: Brandt Snedeker FIVE-PUTTED from three feet. THREE FEET! Here's the video evidence.
3:47 PM: Easy there, big fella.
3:42 PM: I see you, Fowler. I mean, nobody ever doesn't see you, but I see what you're doing in the third round. Just dropped a 67 and will be in one of the final groups on Sunday.
3:29 PM: I question whether anyone is going to make a tournament of this or if Bubba is just going to run away and hide. The latter would be a bummer. Scott is 3 over for the day, Couples is 2 over, Walker is 2 over.
3:21 PM: This is just fantastic:
"The main thing is to enjoy what you're doing and smile, because people don't smile enough on the golf course" Miguel Angel Jimenez gets it— Robert Lusetich (@RobertLusetich) April 12, 2014
3:15 PM: They're showing the Masters at Georgia's spring game:
3:08 PM: Jim Nantz just said we could be in for some "hot action" at Augusta today because Jimenez shot a 66. I'm at a loss.
3:03 PM: Adam Scott, Bubba Watson, and John Senden all just bogeyed No. 1. Bring on the madness!
3:01 PM: What is going on with Caroline Wozniacki?
2:58 PM: Hello, friends.
2:42 PM: I love this sport:
2:33 PM: My pre-tournament pick was Matt Kuchar, he just birdied two of the first three. I don't know if he has the goods to climb all the way back in it but at least he's making me look respectable.
2:21 PM: I've decided if I can't have Spieth or Scott on Sunday I want a Couples/Jimenez final pairing. Miggy is 6 under on the day and climbing.
2:17 PM: This seems below average:
Brandt Snedeker just had a 5-putt. So yeah, I'd say the greens at Augusta are a little tricky.— Will Gray (@WillGrayGC) April 12, 2014
2:16 PM: We're getting close to the leaders teeing off. I'm getting giddy.
1:54 PM: Justin Rose is pulling flag sticks:
1:53 PM: Now our man at the top of the page is 5 under for the day. He needs to birdie in for a 63. I would die happy.
1:40 PM: Rory got outplayed by a non-professional.
1:26 PM: Woodland just splashed it on No. 12. Bye bye, 62.
1:24 PM: Woodland just bogeyed No. 11 which is a bummer but it has been playing as the hardest hole on the course the first two days so if you're going to bogey one, that's the one to bogey. Still has Nos. 13 and 15 left.
1:16 PM: Woodland is just banging at flagsticks. A little long on No. 11 but he almost hit the flag on the fly. This is definitely the most exciting thing nobody is paying attention to at the Masters in a long time.
1:03 PM: Woodland just stiffed it to five feet on No. 10. When does Johnny Miller start stirring?
12:54 PM: Gary Woodland just turned in 30 and is 3 under for the tournament. If he can eagle either No. 13 or No. 15....
12:51 PM: Ben Crenshaw announced today that 2015 would be his last Masters. This piece on Crenshaw and his first wife Polly is just stupendous.
12:41 PM: This seems like a fun place to get things cranking:
Aftermath of a rough masters. Miss cut. Drank a lot to wash away the masters blues.— YE Yang (@Y_E_Yang) April 12, 2014
12:40 PM: Good afternoon, I'm ready for a Bubba meltdown or Spieth 64 or something to make this Masters a great one.
