2014 US Open ratings were abysmal

I knew the TV ratings for the 2014 US Open would be bad but this is look-away-from-the-car-crash horrific.

According to Golf.com the overnight rating for Martin Kaymer's rout at Pinehurst was a 3.3.

Compare that to a Masters overnight of 7.8 for some context for this season but here's some even better context:

So this was a Martin Kaymer problem, it seems, more than it was a runaway win problem. That 2011 Open was over after McIlroy's first-day 66 and yet still got nearly twice the rating that this year's Open did.

The 3.3 figure is also down 46 percent from last year's Justin Rose win at Merion.

If there's a reverse voodoo doll of Tiger Woods somewhere, somebody might want to start working on it.
