The math is complicated and not really that important for any of us to know.
The powers that be, though, have run the numbers on potential OWGR numbers and after Henrik Stenson's T7 finish at the BMW PGA Championship have deduced that Adam Scott needs a top 13 finish at the Crowne Plaza Invitational to retain his No. 1 spot in the world.
If he finishes outside of that then Stenson will become the 18th golfer to rise to No. 1
With Stenson done for the week, Adam Scott's target now is ~5.51pts to stay at #1. That means at least: 2w-T13, 5w-T12, 7w-T11, etc... #OWGR

"2w" stands for two-way, by the way.
Scott started his final round at Colonial tied for T11 so it should be a compelling finish. Stenson said he'd be following on a plane.
Henrik Stenson on the edge-of-his seat feeling watching Adam Scott to see if he’ll become No. 1: “I’ll be flying. I’ll check the scores.”
