Arnold Palmer jokes he will break Rory McIlroy's arm if he skips Bay Hill
Arnold Palmer shows he's still the coolest in the game with this joke about Rory McIlroy's scheduling for 2013.
There is no doubting that Arnold Palmer, at 83, is still the coolest man in golf. He might not have the golf swing he once had, but he still delivers some great lines and can pull off things that nobody else in this game can (remember this SportsCenter commercial?).
Palmer joined the Golf Channel's Morning Drive crew on Thursday and was asked about Rory McIlroy, the No. 1 player in the world, who at the end of this season seemed to come into his own, winning a major and two FedEx Cup events before playing some solid golf at the Ryder Cup.
The King talked about how McIlroy is doing things "right." But what will be memorable from the interview came when Palmer mentioned his own tournament, the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
“I’m going to tell you something," Palmer said with a smile. "If (McIlroy) doesn’t come and play Bay Hill, he might have a broken arm and he won’t have to worry about where he’s going to play next."
Bay Hill lands next season on March 21, and with the pushback of the Masters, it seems likely that Rory will add Arnie's tournament to his schedule, but it was still great to hear him issue such a "threat" to the young Northern Irishman.
McIlroy, you might be hitting the gym, but we all know you couldn't take Palmer in a fight. Old man strength tops anything you can find from a trainer. Sign up for this event, or else!
