Best of Twitter: Rory McIlroy withdraws from Honda Classic
Twitter was amazing during Rory McIlroy's withdrawal from the Honda Classic.
Twitter is always best when something ridiculous happens. It's not the great moments that really get the social media world flowing but rather the absurd.
In Friday's case, Rory McIlroy withdrew from the Honda Classic because of "wisdom tooth pain."
Let's walk through the way the day unfolded:
Wow!!! Rory McIlroy has withdrawn from the Honda Classic. He was +7 thru 8 holes today.— David Dusek (@DavidDusek) March 1, 2013
Latest on Rory WD: Hit approach on 18 into water, walked off course, left quickly driving off in blue BMW. Will have more shortly.— Brian Wacker (@pgatour_brianw) March 1, 2013
Rory hits his ball in the water, drives off in a BMW. I hit my ball in the water, crack open my 13th beer and drive cart into the water.— Adam Fonseca (@ChicagoDuffer) March 1, 2013
He'll be here all year.
My drink suggestion for Rory McIlroy this evening? A John Daly. #dropsmicmyself— Shane Bacon (@shanebacon) March 1, 2013
McIroy said before driving away: "I'm not in a great place mentally. I can't really say much, guys. I'm just in a bad place mentally.''— Scott Michaux (@ScottMichaux) March 1, 2013
In all seriousness, if Rory isn't "in a great place mentally," should he really be driving?— Adam Fonseca (@ChicagoDuffer) March 1, 2013
Wait .... what?!
So it begins ...
Wisdom tooth pain? Well, makes sense. Obviously his wisdom was affected if he thought he could just walk off the course like that.— Jason Sobel (@JasonSobelGC) March 1, 2013
Wisdom tooth pain? That's why Rory withdrew? Maybe he could've cited malaria. Wait.— Ryan Ballengee (@RyanBallengee) March 1, 2013
So.... who is going to be the 1st media member to stake out Rory's dentist's office????— The Homeless Golfer (@homelessgolfer) March 1, 2013

Tiger: "It's ok, Rors. Wisdom teeth can be a real drag. I mean, I won the US Open on a broken leg and torn ACL... but wisdom teeth. Ouchie".— Adam Fonseca (@ChicagoDuffer) March 1, 2013
This is actually true.
Seriously, though: "Severe wisdom tooth pain affecting concentration" is brilliant strategy. Can't disprove it and it can heal in a hurry.— Jason Sobel (@JasonSobelGC) March 1, 2013
I do, too!
@robertlusetich tooth pain is no picnic. But he picked the wrong day for it cuz dentists don't work on Friday. We play golf!— Andrew Hauschka (@athausch) March 1, 2013
Where can I buy one?
Coming soon for 2014: Nike Covert Toothbrush. #JustBrushIt— Adam Fonseca (@ChicagoDuffer) March 1, 2013
We're all done here.
Good thing Rory just signed an endorsement deal with Bose, he's really gonna need those noise canceling headphones now...— Brock Mackenzie (@BrockMackenzie) March 1, 2013
Finally, something from the man himself.
Apologies to all at the Honda. A tough day made impossible by severe tooth pain. Was desperate to defend title but couldn't play on. Gutted— Rory Mcilroy (@McIlroyRory) March 1, 2013
That looks more like a swing-ache.

And, if this is true, shouldn't we be getting one of these babies from McIlroy sometime in the next week?
