Brooks Koepka Monday qualifies into special temporary membership
Brooks Koepka shot a 64 at the Monday qualifier and made the cut at the Zurich Classic which sounds a lot like what Jordan Spieth did in 2013.
Brooks Koepka is one of the young, prolific stars you might not have heard of yet.
I could have written that same sentence about Jordan Spieth this time last year.
As Ryan Lavner points out, Spieth had to finish T13 or better at the Valspar Championship in March to earn special temporary membership for the rest of the year.
Koepka was looking at the same situation earlier this week but there was a problem: He was out of sponsor exemptions.
So what did he do? How about going out and shooting 64 at the Monday qualifier to get into the Zurich Classic. Then the 23-year-old Florida State alum would have to make the cut to get the seven FedEx Cup points he needed to get special temporary membership.
He finished 9-under and T21, well within the mark. What that means is that he'll be able to receive unlimited sponsor exemptions the rest of the year.
Like I said, right where Jordan Spieth was last year.
