Bubba Watson is not pleased with the PGA long-drive contest
Bubba Watson had some interesting quotes about the PGA Championship's long-drive contest on Tuesday.
The PGA Championship is having a long-drive contest on Tuesday at Valhalla which is kind of fun and kind of silly and mostly not a big deal.
See the "long-drive contest" is really just a tracker on the 10th hole of the course where guys playing their practice rounds can bang one out there as far as they can and see who comes out on top.
As Geoff Shackelford pointed out here, there aren't really any downsides. Heck, there's even a prize that goes to charity.
Most of the guys had fun with it. Keegan Bradley and Rickie Fowler posed and laughed and Phil Mickelson even went this far.
"We all loved it. We all had fun with it. I thought it was great. They had the feedback right there to tell you how long each drive was. I thought it was terrific, I hope they keep doing it."
Rory McIlroy sauntered over to the 10th to show his support even though he wasn't playing.
Bubba Watson, though, Bubba Watson did not love the long-drive contest.
"I'm there to play golf, not to hit it far," said Bubba. "I've got to practice. I've never been to the course. I don't need to worry about a long drive on the 10th hole."
"We’re trying to win a great championship," he continued. "There’s no reason to make something up in the middle of a practice round like that. This is just right there in the middle of your practice round while you’re trying to see the course. Just kind of weird to me."
He wasn't done.
"I’m here to win a championship," he said. "I’m not here to goof around."
Here's a look at Bubba hitting iron off the tee -- a club he'll play probably zero times on the par 5 throughout the week.
Well done, Bubba. Point proved. We've all been put in our place.
