Stop me if you've heard this before, but Dustin Johnson rocketed up the AT&T Byron Nelson leaderboard on Friday with his second consecutive 67 at the TPC Four Seasons course. Johnson made four birdies and just one bogey to get to 6 under on the week and tie up a group of golfers including Ben An and Cameron Tringale at the time he finished.

Johnson has five top 20s here at this event in seven appearances and hasn't finished outside the top 12 in any tournament since he played Torrey Pines at the Farmers Insurance Open in January. His season has been one outrageous performance after another. I mean, just look at this!

Johnson is leading the field in driving distance through two rounds and is top 20 in strokes gained putting. A deadly combination for those chasing him.

"I felt like I did everything pretty well," said Johnson, who is looking for his fourth win in his last six starts."Never really got in trouble and even on last hole (a bogey) I hit a good tee shot, hit a good second shot, just the wind switched and came back in my face instead of help. So I came up just short."

The heat has been thick and the wind howling in Dallas, but Johnson seems pretty unfazed by it all, making just three bogeys in his first 36 holes. His obscene ball flight and ability to control his short irons help mitigate the wind. He's also getting better at avoiding the big number.

The 67 was Johnson's 14th (!) straight round at par or better at the Nelson, and 13 of those have been under par. It's a place he feels quite comfortable.

"I just like the course," Johnson said. "You drive it straight, hit it in the fairway, you can attack the golf course. But I like it ever since I came here, the way it sets up off the tees, the greens, I like the greens. I feel like I have a good feel on the greens, I can read the greens very well so yeah, I just like the golf course."

After falling down a set of stairs at the Masters, Johnson has seemingly picked up where he left off pre-back injury. He finished T2 at the Wells Fargo Championship and a career-best T12 at The Players Championship. Still, he's not completely thrilled with where he's at.

"The game is still not quite as sharp as it was leading into Augusta, but it's getting there, it's getting close," Johnson said.

"There's no issues there (with the back)," he added. "Just need to keep practicing to get back. I had to take almost I think four weeks off really, didn't practice or nothing. Takes a little time to get back into the form I was in leading into the Masters and it's getting there. I'm seeing signs of it. Still got to do some work to get back there."

D.J. in the hunt with room to improve? That's a scary proposition for everyone else.
