Golf is a sport with ever-changing tools. There are drivers, putters, balls, towels, bags, socks, grips and everything in between. Here at Eye on Golf, we're reviewing the latest in golf equipment each week in the hope that our words will help you make a better decision on what's best for you. This week, we look at the limited edition adidas Sambas.
Ideal handicap: All golfers
There is a trend happening in the golf world right now that I hope stays around for a while. Golf companies are coming out with limited edition items for each major championship. They used to do this back in the day for professionals only, but now us regular folks can get our hands on stuff that helps pros prepare for each major (granted, we won't be at Augusta National or Olympic Club, but we sure can look like we are).
The adidas brand has done a great job with this, especially with shoes, and the latest limited edition Sambas are a great touch for each of the big four tournaments.
The above picture goes in order of major: Masters (green and yellow), U.S. Open (white and blue), British Open (blue, red and white) and the PGA Championship (powder blue and yellow).
The great thing about these shoes is that, while they all look completely different, they are both great golf shoes and affordable (only $120 a pair).
Also, they give you actual grip on the greens. The growing trend in golf shoes is to go away from real, serious spikes and allow you a more comfortable feel with the earth, but I prefer digging into the ground when I go back to rip at it, and the Sambas are fully equipped with real spikes.
The Masters and U.S. Open Sambas have both been on the market for a while, but the British Open pair just was released to the public in June 15, with the PGA Championship pair (my personal favorite) going live on July 15.
If nothing else, the Sambas are different. They are a cool pair of golf shoes that bring you back to the days of wearing the actual Sambas around with jeans or shorts, and they allow you a different look for summer with some cool colors and different styles. Also, the shoes are water resistant, so if you live in a place that gets rain in the summer, you can still sport these on the course without giving up performance.
I like the idea of a Samba golf shoe because I always loved the Sambas to begin with, and these limited edition colors allow you a more personal purchase while still being stylish on the links.
