Golf photo of the year candidate: Match play at sunrise
A beautiful start to the 2014 Match Play Championship.
Rickie Fowler and Ian Poulter teed off early on Wednesday at the Match Play Championship in the desert and it was spectacular.
The Fowler-Poulter match was one of the more anticipated of the first round and it mostly lived up to its billing.
Fowler never trailed but it got pretty tight at the end when Poulter missed a 15-foot putt that would have sent the match to an 18th hole with Poulter still one down.
But Fowler moves on 2 and 1 and will get No. 6 seed Jimmy Walker in the second round.
After his match Fowler told Golf Channel he was thrilled to defeat Poulter.
"I know Poults didn't play as well as he would like to, obviously, but he is a match play legend. It's nice to get a win under the belt and have a tough match going forward," said Fowler.
