Henrik Stenson played one of the great rounds in major championship history on Sunday at Royal Troon with a 63 for a three-stroke win over Phil Mickelson and a new major championship record score of 264. It was stunning to watch as a spectator.
But the players who played against Stenson were just as stunned as you and I.
"It would be a great tournament without them," said Zach Johnson, who finished 1 under and just 19 back of Stenson. "That being said, you're talking about two stalwarts of the game and two guys that really know how to control their golf ball, so I'm not that surprised to see that."
"After the second day, I was never going to win this golf tournament," said Rory McIlroy in reference to catching the wrong side of the draw. "Look what the guys have done. There's no chance of me getting to that score."
Others expressed their disbelief on Twitter.
Take a bow @henrikstenson. That was a class win. So impressive, I couldn't be more happier for him. pic.twitter.com/oaLCEAVYvg
