Ian Poulter not so happy about the Bethpage Black setup on Saturday
Ian Poulter didn't play his best golf in the third round at the Barclays and he took it to the course setup after via his Twitter account.
On Saturday at the Barclays, Ian Poulter didn't play his best golf. He shot a 5-over 76 to drop 37 spots on the leaderboard, leaving him in a T-53 through three rounds of the first FedEx Cup playoffs.
And he wasn't happy. Like, at all. Poulter took to his millions of Twitter followers to complain about the conditions of Bethpage Black, calling it "the worst course setup I have ever played in 13 years on tour."
The worst course setup I have ever played in 13 years on tour. They have ruined what is a great course, greens like concrete stupid pins.— Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) August 25, 2012
Poulter isn't that far off. The 18th hole yielded 13 three-putts throughout the third round, and Tiger Woods had more three-putts (four) in one round than he's ever had in a single round in his career. The 17th hole, the "signature hole" at Bethpage, saw only one birdie all day, and that was from Nick Watney, who played in the final round.
There were guys that had fine rounds, like Phil Mickelson and Kevin Stadler, but all day long it seemed guys were baffled by the greens, and the way shots were holding heading into the greens.
Poulter didn't exactly back off his comments. He continued, saying he understands his score was bad, but the course was unfair and something needed to be done about it.
I played poorly today & no excuse for my play I was rubbish. but I do know my job & trade & the golf course today was borderline unplayable.— Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) August 25, 2012
As a friend of mine on Twitter said, "it's never good when the Shinnecock comparisons are broken out."
