Jason Dufner gave away his putter, putted with 3-wood at Bridgestone
This story of Jason Dufner giving away one of his clubs to a kid is pretty cool.
I'm not sure how this wasn't a bigger story but apparently Jason Dufner gave his putter away on Sunday at the Bridgestone Invitational and putted the rest of his round with a 3-wood.
Dufner finished T66 so it didn't much matter, but still, quite an act of generosity.
"Jason," I said. "I heard a story that you gave your putter away to a kid yesterday. I wanted to make sure it was true."
"Was that on no. 12?"
I did the math — eight holes. Dufner had always been a bit rough on the greens, but I failed to see how this would help.
"What did you putt with?"
Pretty crazy, right?
I took to Twitter to confirm because all news should be confirmed on Twitter. There it was:
Dufner-Westwood-Todd pairing was comical. Dufner played last 7 holes without putter. Dufner, Westwood traded jokes. Todd silent.— Guy Cipriano (@GCIMagazineGuy) August 2, 2014
Dufner finished 70th in putting (out of a field of 72) so maybe he just wanted to get rid of it but it's still kind of a cool story.
