Not sure I would have told this one, Justin.

Justin Rose has been out for all of 2014 with a shoulder injury. He will make his debut at the Northern Trust Open this weekend in California. So how exactly did he injure the shoulder?

GolfWeek's Alex Miceli has the story:

"According to Rose, he irritated the shoulder when throwing a ball back to caddie Mark Fulcher at The Barclays. Rose played through the injury for the rest of the 2013 season."

Yikes, that doesn't do much for the "golfers are athletes" argument.

Was he throwing his caddie a slider? Trying to break one off on the back of the green? I might have just gone with the old "just normal wear and tear stuff" excuse here.

Still, Rose battled through the injury.

"I played pretty much from October last year with it not perfect. I assumed a little bit of rest over Christmas would heal it, but it didn't really and that's when I knew I needed to put a little bit of extra time into it – but nothing serious, nothing torn, no surgery required, nothing like that.”

Even though he's back in the US for the Northern Trust Open and Match Play Championship, he said he's got his eyes on the entire season, as well.

"My immediate focus is just continuing to improve as a golfer and really have the discipline every week to go out and execute my skill set, which I believe is growing and getting stronger every week. So that's how I'm going to play my best golf. That's how I'm going to contend in majors. Certainly I want to be 100 percent come April."
