Mini-tour player shoots 56 on par-72 course with penalty stroke
Really, a professional golfer shot 56 on a legitimate course from the back tees ... and he took a penalty stroke!
Wait, what is this madness?!
Yes, Jesse Massie, who plays on the NGA Hooters Tour's Carolina Series, carded a round of 56 last Friday that included a penalty stroke at Glenmary Golf Course in Louisville, Ky.
"It was just one of those days where you wonder what exactly is going on," he said.
He wasn't the only one wondering. The head pro at Glenmary, Jack Ridge, said Massie looked like he'd just been spooked:
"When he came into the shop, he was shaking," said Ridge. "I couldn't believe it. Nobody walks in and says they shot a 56."
No, you're right, Jack. Though one guy walked in last year (not at Glenmary) and said he shot a 55.
But still, Massie said he only needed 21 putts to make his 14 birdies and an eagle. Seriously, 14 birdies and an eagle!
"I was more nervous when I was 11- or 12-under, because you want to break 60 so bad," said Massie. "By the time I got to 14-under, I was just trying to get to the clubhouse."
I would have been trying to get to a drink of something. Well done, youngster, and good luck breaking that score.
