PHOTO: Look at the stark difference in Pinehurst from 2005 to 2014
A lot less greenery this time around at Pinehurst No. 2 for the US Open.
We all know the look for Pinehurst at the 2014 is going to be different but the contrasting photos above give a good glimpse of just how different the courses will be.
On the left you see what this year's Open will look like with the natural elements seeping into the golf course. On the right you see what it looked like back in 2005. More green, more manicured.
It's hard to believe those are both the same fairway (No. 4) at Pinehurst's most famous course.
The players love it, though. Phil Mickelson said that while the course looks totally different, it still plays somewhat the same when you get to the greens.
"I don't think that the experience of playing in the US Open here in the past years is very helpful, other than knowing how to play the golf course, where to miss it and what places you need to be careful of, because those are pretty similar around the greens. The notes I took from 2005 were identical."
It should be a great test.
