Rory McIlroy shoots 65 to get in contention at Quail Hollow
Rory McIlroy is trying to recapture his Wells Fargo Championship magic from his first PGA Tour win in 2010.
After a second-round 76 Rory McIlroy teed off early on Saturday and set fire to the course at the Wells Fargo Championship with a third-round 65.
The Ulsterman made eight birdies and a lone bogey to climb the leaderboard and get to 6 under for the tournament.
He'll still have work to do as Phil Mickelson set the pace early in the clubhouse at 11 under but in 2010 McIlroy shot 66-62 on the weekend to take home the title.
Will 2014 be a repeat?
"It depends on where the guys are at the end of today," McIlroy said. "If I'm still within four or five shots going into tomorrow, I think I'll have a chance. We'll see what happens."
McIlroy has certainly put himself in a position to grab the win.
Here's a look at his card from Saturday:
"I figured out what I needed to do out there," McIlroy said. "It was a really solid round of golf."
That it was.
