Round 2 recap from the 2014 PGA Championship
All the stats, GIFs, photos, and commentary you can handle from the second day of play at Valhalla.
Tiger Woods missed the cut and Rory McIlroy, uh, did not. There was a ton of fun action at the second round of the 2014 PGA Championship and we documented everything as it happened.
Here's a look:
7:54 p.m. -- Okay, that's all for me, folks. Long but fun day and I'll be here all day tomorrow!
7:23 p.m. -- We have a Jason Day-Rory McIlroy final pairing on Saturday. That is monstrous.
7:05 p.m. -- I actually woke up singing this for some ungodly reason.
I just started humming along to that “Hall of Fame” song, someone save me please the light is fading.— Shane Bacon (@shanebacon) August 8, 2014
6:58 p.m. -- Rickie Fowler tied for second because it's Friday at a major.
6:34 p.m. -- This feels like the longest round of the year. I guess with the rain delay it might be.
6:24 p.m. -- SO, so much.
How much do you think Phil is enjoying doing this right in front of Tiger? Big Cat has had to watch the whole thing.— Dillon Mays (@dillonmays_) August 8, 2014
6:21 p.m. -- Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, Jim Furyk, Lee Westwood, and Phil Mickelson all in the top 10 right now. Okay.
5:47 p.m. -- I wouldn't mind Mickelson getting in the mix this weekend either.
5:45 p.m. -- All of the WDs. Boo Weekley (shoulder) and Angel Cabrera (shoulder) are among them.
5:07 p.m. -- You mean Adam Scott caught a bad break?
4:54 p.m. -- Not sure if this was a good move or not...probably not.
4:35 p.m. -- I think Tiger is about to withdraw. Also, this seems pretty decent:
4:25 p.m. -- This, above all else, is just sad.
4:21 p.m. -- Tiger just made double bogey and he's now in 125th and being beat by six club pros.
4:08 p.m. -- Welp.
4:01 p.m. -- Okay, I'm back. Here's something funny:
Young security guard tries to stop Tom Watson from entering locker room. "I'm a player," he explains with a smile.— Jason Sobel (@JasonSobelGC) August 8, 2014
3:09 p.m. -- Okay, blogger has to eat. Be back shortly.
3:01 p.m. -- Here's the Rory gamer I've been working on.
2:21 p.m. -- I'll second this.
New golf rule: The cut in any major should be what Tom Watson is. #Class— Dillon Mays (@dillonmays_) August 8, 2014
2:02 -- This tournament might be circling the drain..
1:47 p.m. -- Pretty boss.
Back on Wed, Ryan Palmer saw our #TNT intvw area and said 2 me "See ya tomorrow" (for intvw). Just said it again for 3rd straight day.— Vince Cellini (@Vince_Cellini) August 8, 2014
1:31 p.m. -- I haven't gotten over how incredible it is that Bubba Watson had Ted Scott tee a ball up for him!
Ted Scott, ladies and gentleman. pic.twitter.com/nUXdeImD1m— Chris Chaney (@Wrong_Fairway) August 8, 2014
1:26 p.m. -- Ryan Palmer being an Aggie and all, maybe he won't ever realize he's leading a major.
12:59 p.m. -- Pretty much.
I just figured out the difference between Rory and these other guys. They don't have as much talent as he does.— Dan Jenkins (@danjenkinsgd) August 8, 2014
12:49 -- Here's a GIF of the eagle that gave McIlroy the lead:
12:25 p.m. -- This crushed me:
Bubba is leaking so much oil, there's going to be a congressional hearing. And he's going to make Ted Scott testify. #PrayForTedScott— No Laying Up (@NoLayingUp) August 8, 2014
12:24 p.m. -- Rory is burning every single edge for birdie when they aren't going. He could be 12 under so easily it's embarrassing.
12:04 p.m. -- Rory with a big-boy eagle at No. 18. He's alone by two.
11:50 a.m. -- Bubba is not pleased.
11:45 a.m. -- I've never seen somebody act with the petulance Bubba Watson is spewing right now and still be 3 under par. It's incredible. He might be a parody.
11:20 a.m. -- That stache!
I'm guessing this man with the marvelous mustache will not get the same coverage as the chick last week. pic.twitter.com/CFSUxG5WQt— Chris Chaney (@Wrong_Fairway) August 8, 2014
11:13 a.m. -- I'll go with the latter.
Did someone just croak on the telecast or is yelling like a snake just attacked you the new “mashed potatoes”?— Shane Bacon (@shanebacon) August 8, 2014
11:12 a.m. -- I'm pretty pumped that Tiger's last round of the season is going to be on TV.
10:54 a.m. -- Martin Kaymer falling off the map since his US Open win is such an example of golf is hard. Maybe the best example.
10:22 a.m. -- Somehow I've avoided the Rory/Omega commercial all day. I don't know how but I don't want to talk about it. It's my personal little no-hitter right now.
10:01 a.m. -- Good news for Rory: He played Nos. 10 and 11 three better than Thursday. Bad news for Rory: He's not hitting it very well right now. Errant drive on No. 12.
9:29 a.m. -- McIlroy, Kaymer, and Scott are off. I was thinking last night about how easily Rory could have shot 60 on Thursday. Four lipped-out putts and the yanked ball out of bounds on No. 10.
9:10 a.m. -- Is it too late to change my pick for an over/under on the final total score for the week? Today is going to be nasty.
8:25 a.m. -- Play to resume in 10 minutes. That was quick and the the fairways looked totally soaked. I hope it's not off and on all day.
8:00 a.m. -- Rain delay. Welp.
This eagle chip from the team of Kevin Kisner and Scott Brown was unbelievable
