The Links: Jack Nicklaus can't imagine Ryder Cup without Tiger Woods
Details on the long drive contest, James Bond plays golf, and a former tennis player is the best golfer in Russia.
Welcome back to The Links -- a Rory's girlfriend-free zone for the time being. Hope you enjoy today's version.
Jack Nicklaus puts the ball in Tom Watson's court regarding Tiger Woods: "I couldn’t imagine a Ryder Cup team without him, unless he’s done nothing between now and then with his game.
"If I were the captain I would be hard pressed, I don’t care what he does. If he wants to play I would choose him, and I would guess Tom (Watson) feels the same way. Anybody in their right mind, unless (Woods) doesn’t want to play, would choose him." (Golf Channel)
Ernie Els is a club designer which is all kinds of cool. (Golf Digest)
Brandt Snedeker on putting: "All guys who have a history of putting great, the Brad Faxons, Ben Crenshaws, the Steve Strickers, all have an innate belief that it's going to come around. They are great putters. It will turn around, and they keep firing." (USA Today)
So you get one whack at it at the long drive contest at the PGA Championship? Seems boring. (Geoff Shackelford)
Enjoy Tiger while you can. There won't be another. (Golf Digest)
Jack Nicklaus on Rory as an all-timer: "He’s on par to do that, and I would be surprised if he doesn’t. It depends on Rory’s desire and focus and what he wants to accomplish with his life.
"Some guys have success and decide they want to live a normal life. There are other athletes who decide records are important to them. Whichever direction Rory heads he will be successful at whatever he does." (Golf Channel)
James Bond plays golf. I was about -20 years old when this came out. (Compleat Golfer)
A former tennis player is Russia's best golfer. Yikes. (Golf Digest)
