The NFL should have a QB-only match play tournament
Tony Romo, Aaron Rodgers, Sam Bradford, Tom Brady, and Peyton Manning would have a lot of fun at a QB-only match play tournament.
I was reading up on the American Century Championship from last weekend and saw that Aaron Rodgers was playing in it and I got to thinking about something.
The NFL should hold an offseason QB-only match play tournament. The drama, and I say this with a straight face, would be high.
You know guys like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady would take it way too seriously, there would be the Tony Romo choke factor in play, and we could get Johnny Football involved.
There are no downsides!
You could fill it out like the PGA Tour does with the Match Play Championship except just have 32 guys (your best golfing QB on each team) battle it out over a few days at a cool course. We could play the semis and finals over 36 holes.
Let's take a look at what that might look like with four brackets (seeds in parentheses).
Tony Romo (1) vs.
Johnny Manziel (2) vs. Andrew Luck (7)
Matthew Stafford (3) vs. EJ Manuel (6)
Tom Brady (4) vs. Carson Palmer (5)
Romo should win this bracket but Johnny will give him a battle. Carson Palmer is sleeper-y. I have no idea if Andrew Luck can swing a club but I bet he can manage the hell out of a golf course.
Drew Brees (2) vs. Russell Wilson (7)
Matt Schaub (3) vs. Robert Griffin III (6)
Colin Kaepernick (4) vs. Michael Vick (5)
Pretty great group right here. Russell Wilson will probably shoot six straight 72s to win the whole thing. Bradford might be the best golfing QB alive.
Peyton Manning (1) vs.
Eli Manning (2) vs. Joe Flacco (7)
Alex Smith (3) vs. Andy Dalton (6)
Philip Rivers (4) vs. Cam Newton (5)
The "are they elite" group. I want an all-Manning final.
Aaron Rodgers (2) vs. Josh McCown (7)
Jay Cutler (3) vs. Jake Locker (6)
Matt Ryan (4) vs. Ryan Tannehill (5)
Possibly the worst of the four groups though I could see Roethlisberger winning it all.
Somebody needs to make this happen.
The finish at Bethpage Black on Sunday should be tremendous
Jordan Spieth is out here trying to win golf tournaments and please the masses
Patrick Reed holds a two shot lead over Rickie Fowler and Emiliano Grillo after the second...
Jordan Spieth is not a very good speller
Fowler shot a 4-under 67 but couldn't stop thinking about Hazeltine
Not sure on the math here, but Spieth's general idea makes some sense
