The British Open is about to get cranking later this week and the tee times and groups are out. Here's a look at some of the best ones with Thursday tee times in parentheses.

All times Eastern.

Tom Watson, Jim Furyk, Darren Clarke (3:26 a.m.): Tom Watson at the British Open is always a treat.

Luke Donald, Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia (3:37 a.m.): Big-boy group here. I really think Fowler and Garcia have a good chance to win this thing.

Tiger Woods, Angel Cabrera, Henrik Stenson (4:04 a.m.): He's back, you guys. Set those alarm clocks.

Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama (4:26 a.m.): A monster of a group that doubles as my favorite by far.

Ian Poulter, Dustin Johnson, Jimmy Walker (4:37 a.m.): Quite a group for a number of reasons that probably aren't fit for print.

Graeme McDowell, Matt Kuchar, Louis Oosthuizen (4:48 a.m.): Maybe the most good-natured group out there. McDowell and Kuchar are just fun to be around and watch. Oosthuizen, as well. And that swing!

Martin Kaymer, Jason Day, Zach Johnson (8:38 a.m.): Tough as hell group here. If the Open comes down to a wrestling match (I have no idea under what circumstances this would happen) I want Day and Johnson in my corner.

Bubba Watson, Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson (9:05 a.m.): So many majors between them. Also some of the most unique swings in the game. A really fun group to follow.

Adam Scott, Justin Rose, Jason Dufner (9:27 a.m.): A ball-striking extravaganza. Scott might be the least adept with his long irons, and that's saying something.

Tommy Fleetwood, Ross Fisher, John Daly (10:00 a.m.): Not sure about you guys but I'm pretty stoked to see what Fleetwood and Fisher can do on this course.
