Phil Mickelson is scouting out Pinehurst in hot pursuit of the career grand slam and yep, he's doing it in shorts.

I don't know why pros in shorts cracks me up so much but it's never not funny.

Seriously though, Mickelson commented on the remake of No. 2 and why it feels different this time around.

"I think everybody loves it" said Mickelson. "They left the greatness of it (which are the greens) and restored the shot-making value."

The course was transformed back in 2011 -- you can read more about that here into more of how it was originally designed. Less manufactured, more of the natural elements.

"I don't think it's going to be much different of a US Open than what you're used to seeing" siad Mickelson. "The challenge is still hitting fairways. The greens are so penalizing that if you're not in the fairway getting the ball on the surface is almost impossible."

Rory McIlroy played it in shorts on Monday as well.

And one last "pros in shorts" photo. Robert Garrigus at a US Open qualifier:
