VIDEO: Vintage Pinehurst looks pretty awesome
Here's a video of what Pinehurst looked like when the North and South Open was played there in the early part of the 20th century.
Big-time tournaments aren't new to the Pinehurst Resort, the North and South Open was held there from 1902 to 1951 and it was one of the biggest tournaments in the United States.
The video above is what the place looked like when that tournament was taking place.
Dan Jenkins said we should judge Pinehurst more by some of those early tournaments than more recent ones.
Don't judge Pinehurst No. 2 by Michael Campbell winning the '05 Open. Think of it as where Hogan and Snead each won 3 North-South Opens.— Dan Jenkins (@danjenkinsgd) June 10, 2014
Even Arnold Palmer said he regrets never winning a North and South Open at this course.
Interestingly, the first seven winners of the North and South Open were (surprise!) Donald Ross (who, you know, designed the course) and his brother Alec.
