Adams looking to provide new Insight

First, Adams Golf had a better Idea. Now, the company has true Insight into what golfers need.

Idea, of course, is the name of the hybrids and hybrid/iron sets that Adams makes for golfers of all skill levels.

Now, the company, based in Plano, Texas, is bringing forth a series of drivers and fairway woods called Insight. There are three models in the series, all with the premise of increasing stability and forgiveness for golfers: Insight BUL, with the greatest amount of game improvement; Insight BTY, with an adjustable weight port for better players; and Insight Belle, for women.

“These new drivers and fairway woods are very unique in their construction,” said Chip Brewer, Adams Golf CEO and president. “We created the BUL line for the golfers who need more accuracy and, in turn, more distance. The BTY driver and fairway wood are designed for better players who like traditional and tour-inspired shaping, and low spin rates, even at high clubhead speeds. And the Belle driver and fairway woods are specifically engineered to fit the game of the female golfer.”

On tour, many of the Adams pro staff already is playing with the Insight lineup. The tour roster includes Tom Watson, Bernhard Langer, Scott Hoch, Dana Quigley, Allen Doyle, Brittany Lincicome, Jerry Pate, D.A. Weibring and others.

In fact, Lincicome employed a bag full of Adams clubs to win the LPGA Tour’s recent Ginn Open. Her arsenal includes a 10.5-degree Insight BTY driver and 14.5-degree BTY fairway wood, along with a 22-degree Idea Pro Hybrid and a set of Idea Pro Forged irons (4-PW).

Adams Golf's Insight BUL fairway woods retail for $249.99.

“The conditions were very difficult (in the final round),” said Lincicome, who came from four shots back on April 15 to edge tour money-leader Lorena Ochoa by one shot. “It was a real test out there. .. having to factor in the amount of wind and what that does to distance and accuracy. I was very pleased with my ball flight and the consistent distances I was getting.”

For those wondering, BUL in Adams parlance relates to “strong.” BTY, as might be deduced, stands for “beauty.”

Here’s a closer look at the latest from Adams Golf.

INSIGHT BUL

Engineers developed the Insight BUL driver to achieve an MOI of 5,000, among the highest in the industry. MOI stands for moment of inertia, a mathematical formula that equates to stability on off-center hits.

The BUL driver, with a 460cc titanium head, is not square, as some companies have done. But, looking at it from the bottom, it is clearly discernable that the geometry consumes a wider mass, even with its rounded rear crown.

The design accounts for moving discretionary mass deeper and wider, and thus enhancing stability, forgiveness and accuracy.
