SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -Michael Allen gave his hometown gallery plenty to cheer about, matching his career-low round with a 7-under 63 to take the first-round lead in the Fry's Electronics Open on Thursday.

Nick Watney, Rich Beem and Frank Lickliter II were two strokes back, with Lickliter posting the day's only bogey-free round on Grayhawk's Raptor Course.

It wasn't as much fun for Grayhawk member Phil Mickelson, No. 2 on this year's money list and the biggest name in the tournament. Mickelson hit three balls into the desert and wound up at 1-over 71, eight strokes behind the 48-year-old Allen.

Portugal Masters

VILAMOURA, Portugal (AP) - Germany's Martin Kaymer shot a bogey-free 11-under 61, breaking the course record and matching the lowest round on the European tour this season, to take a three-stroke lead in the Portugal Masters.

The 22-year-old Kaymer birdied the final five holes for a 7-under 29 on the back nine. Argentina's Daniel Vancsik and Sweden's Martin Erlandsson shot 64s, and South African star Retief Goosen was another stroke back along with England's Lee Westwood and France's Gregory Bourdy.
