Forget the Super Tuesdays, painful primaries and those never-ending television debates on the cable-news shows.
Unlike the U.S. presidential process that relies on the electoral college to pick the final winner, the voting procedure we’re about to unveil will allow you, John Q. Publinks, to have an actual say in the important outcome.
Every year, the World Golf Hall of Fame sends ballots to a select group of writers and golf officials and industry types for the purposes of selecting several of the inductees for the following November. Every year, it seemingly gets harder to separate the deserving players, who teed it up in various eras spanning the featherie ball to the two-piece rockets of today.
The events considered major championships were different in the early 20th Century and the fields were inarguably thin. Conversely, modern-day players generally don’t win as often, and their every golfing gaffe can become a public spectacle on TV. Most of the no-brainer picks have long ago been enshrined.
It’s an unquantifiable quandary. So, this time around, you can impact the decision – in two separate categories, no less.

The CBSSports.com tallies will be given extremely strong consideration when my two ballots are formally signed and returned. That is, I cannot officially promise to defer to the will and whims of the readers, or the Hall brass could yank my voting privileges for shirking my responsibility. Catching my drift here? Wink, wink.
The first ballot includes the 17 players under consideration based on their U.S. tour careers, either on the formal PGA Tour or its rough-hewn predecessor. The second ballot is for 10 international players.
Go ahead. Help make the call for the hall. Democracy, despite what you might think of Hillary, is a wonderful thing.
