Heavy Putter

Admittedly, Heavy Putters are an acquired taste.

Boccieri Golf's new Heavy Putter C2T-DF Tour is a heel-toe blade style with a Deep Face that is one-quarter inch higher than conventional putters.

"The higher center of gravity better aligns the putter with the equator of the ball without having to lift the putter off the ground," said Steve Boccieri, company president and CEO.

Like all Heavy Putters, the Deep Face Tour model has a much heavier than the normal stainless steel head at 465 grams, counterbalanced by 250 grams of weight in the grip end of the shaft. The result should be a pendulum swing that, according Boccieri, will yield greater consistency once the golfer becomes well-adapted to the extra weight.

With a rich black finish, the Deep Face Tour putter has a list price of $259.

TaylorMade

The new Rossa Monza Spider is large and loaded with technology, and slightly weird looking at first glance. Still, it has been a huge hit on tour, with pros such as Justin Rose, Jason Day, Charles Howell III, Sean O'Hair, Mike Weir, Paul Goydos, J.B. Holmes and Fred Funk all having put the new putter in their bags at some point this season.

The head of the Spider has both a steel wire frame and a black aluminum base with rear wings. Weight is positioned on the perimeter and toward the rear to elevate the MOI and enhance forgiveness on off-center hits. There are also two moveable weights in the rear wings that allow players to adjust head bias.

The Spider putter also contains TaylorMade's AGSI+ titanium face insert which promotes a forward spin for a smoother and more consistent roll off the club head.

"This is the best performing putter we've ever made," said Toulon.

Suggested retail price is $240.

Odyssey

A division of Callaway, innovative Odyssey has been a leader in putter sales for several years. Among its introductions for 2008 are the Black Series i putters and the White Hot XG Sabertooth.

The Sabertooth is a dramatically shaped mallet-like putter that achieves its high MOI factor primarily from Dual Fangs in the rear that account for 37 percent of the putter head's weight.

The face contains a multilayer insert comprising a soft core and a thin, firm outer cover. The White Hot insert is designed to provide a solid roll with enhanced feel.

PGA Tour sensation Rocco Mediate has been putting with an Odyssey Sabertooth this season.

Available at half-inch intervals ranging from 31 to 38 inches, list price is $169.

The Black Series i group has a new multilayer Tour insert designed to provide "premium feel and responsiveness." There are three models in the series, including a high MOI design. The Black Series i #1 is a heel-toe blade, #9 is a heel-toe design with an extended rear flange and the #7 is a modified mallet with rear wings.

The high MOI #7 strategically moves the weight low and to the rear.

List price is $269.
