Willis wins Nationwide Tour event

MIDLAND, Texas (AP) -Garrett Willis won the WNB Golf Classic on Sunday to lock up a spot next year on the PGA Tour, closing with a 4-under 68 for a one-stroke victory over Chad Collins at Midland Country Club.

Willis finished at 20-under 268 after opening with rounds of 64, 69 and 67. He earned $94,500 to jump from 19th to sixth on the money list with $261,506, with the final top 25 earning 2010 PGA Tour cards.

"It's an almost surreal feeling," Willis said. "I was kind of expecting this grand explosion of emotion and I suppose that will come at some point. This is our job and what we set out to do each year."

Collins shot a 62. He birdied 10 of the first 15 holes, then closed with three pars. Darron Stiles and Jin Park had 66s to tie for third at 17 under.

The 35-year-old Willis won the 2001 Tucson Open in his first start on the PGA Tour and also won the Nationwide Tour's 2005 Utah Classic.

"I really didn't think my nerves were too bad today," he said. "Usually I can get pretty jumpy but I just tried to stay calm, walk slow and talk slow. I was pretty calm out there, especially for me."
