Expert Picks: RBC Heritage

  •

Each week during the official PGA Tour season, CBSSports.com's Steve Elling and Shane Bacon give their best shot at pegging the winner and seeing what other golfers will have a good week. The picks are based on a combination of homework, guesswork and just plain instinct.

Pick to win it
Elling's Pick Bacon's Pick

Brandt Snedeker
His success last year at Hilton Head doesn’t necessarily compute. The defending champion, Snedeker is one of the best putters on tour, but the tight Pete Dye course at Harbour Town generally favors ball-strikers. Snedeker has already won once this year, and though his record at Hilton Head is spotty, he is No. 23 in the world and finished a solid T19 at the Masters last week.
Odds to win tournament: (33 to 1)

Jim Furyk
You think Jim Furyk will finish in the top-10? Well, how about that, so do I, but a little better than that; I think Furyk is going to win this week at Harbour Town. The guy has been consistent at this event over the years, and seems to have finally found his golf game the last two starts with 11th place finishes at Bay Hill and Augusta. This week is all about a chill atmosphere, which is perfect for Jimmy, so long as he doesn't pound too many 5 Hour Energys.
Odds to win tournament: (25 to 1)
Lock for Top 10 finish

Jim Furyk
While he hasn’t won in 1˝ years and had the worst season of his career in 2011, Furyk has been showing signs of emerging from a lengthy drought. Over the past month, has a pair of 11th-place finishes – including at the Masters – and a runner-up at the Tampa event. He has five top-10 finishes, including a victory and two seconds, at Hilton Head.
Odds to win tournament: (25 to 1)

Luke Donald
Luke Donald is my man to finish in the top-10 simply because he seems to always finish in the top-10 at Harbour Town and is the best player in the field by a mile. Donald has played the last three years at this tournament and has two seconds and third. I think he's due for another good week, especially coming off his 4-under par round of 68 on Sunday at the Masters.
Odds to win tournament: (12 to 1)

Boo Weekley
The Prince of the Panhandle, who attended the same high school as Bubba Watson in rural Florida, has two career victories on the PGA Tour, both at Hilton Head. How? Well, Watson hits it straight and has a crisp iron game, which makes up for his unusually poor putter sometimes. Watson ranked dead last on tour in putting last year. He’ll need a hot short stick, obviously.
Odds to win tournament: (50 to 1)

Ricky Barnes
The guy is too talented not to eventually win on the PGA Tour, and this seems to be one of his favorite events all season. The second University of Arizona player in my picks this week (Bear Down!) has played here twice and has two top-fives. Good enough for me!
Odds to win tournament: (80 to 1)
