Expert Picks: Wyndham Championship
Each week during the official PGA Tour season, CBSSports.com's Ryan Wilson and Shane Bacon give their best shot at pegging the winner and seeing what other golfers will have a good week. The picks are based on a combination of homework, guesswork and just plain instinct.

![]() Jason Dufner |
Heading into last week's PGA Championship, we had Dufner as our sleeper pick because of his consistency. Above-par rounds on Thursday and Saturday gave way to 5-under effort on the weekend, good for T-27th. For some perspective on just how un-Dufner-like his Kiawah performance once, consider this: In his last six starts, his lowest finishes have been at the PGA and the T-31st at the British Open. The other four tournaments: 1st, 2nd, T-4th and 7th. Not too shabby for quite possibly the most underrated player on Tour. He's once twice already this year and victory No. 3 at the Wyndham would surprise no one. Odds to win tournament: (12 to 1) |
![]() Carl Pettersson |
I like to go with the confident guy, and Pettersson has to be riding high after a PGA Championship that would have had him finish solo second if not for a questionable two-stroke penalty on his first hole on Sunday. Pettersson has had a great 2012 season, and he's heading to a golf course that he loves, winning here in '08 and finishing fourth a year ago. What's not to love with this pick to win? Odds to win tournament: (18 to 1) |

![]() Tim Clark |
Clarks's season couldn't have gotten off to a worse start: three cuts and a DQ. He finally got in the money at the RBC Heritage (T-37th) and despite missing the cut at Wells Fargo, the U.S. Open and Open Championship, he's been playing well. He T-4th at the Travelers and the last two weeks have seen a T-15 at the Canadian Open and a T-11th at the PGA. He tied for sixth at the 2008 Wyndham with four rounds in the 60s. Odds to win tournament: (30 to 1) |
![]() David Toms |
This is the perfect golf course for a player like David Toms, and he's continuing the momentum he's had this season despite a decent performance at the PGA. Toms was second alone at Sedgefield in 2010, and he played well here again a year ago. I'm not sure if Toms can close it out this week, but I definitely see him contending late into Sunday afternoon. Odds to win tournament: (30 to 1) |

![]() John Daly |
It's easy to be distracted by Big John's pants -- especially when he wasn't playing well -- but the reality is this: he continues to putter along under the radar (despite the fact that his fashion choices make him visible from the International Space Station) and it won't be long before he actually goes and wins one of these tournaments. He T-18th at the PGA, firing his first and final rounds in the 60s and the man haunted by on-course lapses seems to have conquered those demons (or at the very least, is much better at managing them). A Daly victory would be a fantastic story; in addition to finally earning his card, it would give us something to talk about besides Tiger Woods. Odds to win tournament: (80 to 1) |
![]() Blake Adams |
It's all about momentum, right? Adams had his best finish of the season a week ago at the PGA Championship, and that will bold well for the 36-year-old heading into the Wyndham. A season ago, he finished T-30 here after coming off a T-3 finish at the Reno-Tahoe Open, but I feel the confidence he will gain from a top-10 finish at a major will really get him going this week. Odds to win tournament: (66 to 1) |
