MEDINAH, Ill. (AP) - The Americans have the momentum at the Ryder Cup after overcoming a rough start. They are up 2-1 with one match still being played.
Keegan Bradley and Phil Mickelson won the first point of the tournament and made a statement in the process, handing Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald their first loss ever in foursomes. Jason Dufner and Zach Johnson gave the Americans the lead with a 3-and-2 victory over Lee Westwood and Francesco Molinari.
Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell got the Europeans on the board with a 1 up victory over Brandt Snedeker and Jim Furyk. But that seemed like something of a victory considering Europe's top team had been 3 up with six holes to play.
Play in fourballs begins Friday afternoon.
