McIlroy denies engagement despite Wozniacki's ring wire reports

BRISBANE, Australia -- Caroline Wozniacki arrived to play in Brisbane on Friday with a diamond ring on her left ring finger, sparking speculation that she and boyfriend Rory McIlroy had become engaged. But just as quickly, the world's No. 1 golfer denied the reports.

The Australian Associated Press and other media outlets said Wozniacki wore the ring at the Brisbane International airport and as she prepared for her afternoon practice session at the Queensland Tennis Centre, but removed it to play on court.

The Daily Mail published photos of the sapphire and diamond ring on its website on Friday.

McIlroy, who accompanied Wozniacki on her trip Down Under, released a statement on Friday saying various media reports of the couple's engagement weren't true.

The Brisbane International begins Sunday with Wozniacki's first match in a tournament that includes Serena Willliams and Maria Sharapova, if fit.
