Stricker says he can see PGA Tour ignoring putter ban

MARANA, Ariz. -- Steve Stricker would not be surprised if the PGA Tour decides to ignore a proposed new rule banning the stroke used for long putters.

Stricker was among the players who spoke out in favor of the USGA's proposal to ban anchored strokes. But he says information over the last few months has caused most players to change their views.

Stricker is on the PGA Tour policy board, which had a conference call Monday night. While he did not reveal details of the call, he said the tour would be drafting a letter to the USGA to state its position.

The debate really doesn't get started until a 90-day comment period is over at the end of the month and the USGA decides whether to adopt the rule.
