Acker-Macosko shoots 60 in California

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Anna Acker-Macosko shot an 11-under 60 on Sunday at the Longs Drugs Challenge, one stroke off Annika Sorenstam's tour record.

It was the second round of 60 this year. Jung Yeon Lee had a 60 on the par-70 course in Tucson, Ariz., during the first tournament of the season.

Playing on the par-71 course at The Ridge Golf Club, Acker-Macosko started her round with two straight birdies and had five on the front side and six more on the back.

Acker-Macosko walked to the 18th green with a chance for one more birdie and a share of the tour record. But the downhill 30-foot putt broke right of the hole, and she made a short putt for par.

"It was a straight putt and I was reading it to break," said Acker-Macosko, who left a 23-foot putt short on No. 17.

Acker-Macosko has missed 12 of 21 cuts this year, has had just one top-10 finish and was considering quitting the tour after this year due to her 117th place on the money list entering this week.

She has not won a tournament since joining the tour full-time in 1997. She had a previous best round of 68 this year, and her career low was a 64.

"It's probably the closest I'll ever come to tying one of Annika's records," she said. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime round."
