David Duval 59 retrospective
David Duval was the last player to shoot a 59 in an official PGA Tour event at the 1999 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Duval accomplished the feat in the final round of the tournament at PGA West's Palmer Course. As it turned out, he needed every bit of his 59 to pull off the victory. He rallied from a seven-stroke deficit on the final day to finish one stroke ahead of Steve Pate.
Duval's 59 was the third in PGA Tour history. The only other players to achieve it were Al Geiberger at the 1977 Memphis Classic and Chip Beck at the 1991 Las Vegas Invitational.
Eight years later, we take a look back at that magical day in Bob Hope Chrysler Classic history.

-- David Duval, after his incredible round
Conscious thought was 'Pick out your line and hit it quick.' As soon as I hit the putt I knew I made it.
-- David Duval, on the last eagle putt
I certainly had aspirations of winning, but the 59 was first and foremost in my mind. It was kind of a double bonus.

It's like pitching a perfect game

Actually, I wish he had broken the record and shot 58. I think it will happen soon, and I hope it does. That's the next level.
-- Chip Beck, who shot 59 in 1991
I heard David had a 59 when I had about two holes to go. I knew he was at 26 under, and I knew I had to make birdies. I played better than all but one guy.
