ARCADIA, Calif. -- Boasting rallied to edge Makeup Artist by a length Friday in the $57,600 feature race at Santa Anita.
Boasting, ridden by Patrick Valenzuela, covered a mile on the turf course in 1:35.85 and paid $3.60, $2.60 and $2.20.
Boasting was coupled in the wagering with Broad Minded, and the entry went off as the 4-5 favorite. Broad Minded finished eighth in the field of nine.
The win was the third in five lifetime starts for Boasting and was worth $33,600, raising the career earnings of the 4-year-old daughter of Kris S. to $109,400.
Makeup Artist returned $3.80 and $3.20. Emmas Princess, a 15-1 long shot, finished third in the allowance race for older fillies and mares and paid $4.60 to show.
Each of the nine entries carried 118 pounds.
