FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA (May 13, 1999) - Cricket fans across the globe can put their knowledge of the world's top players and national teams into play with the free CricInfo World Cup '99 Challenge fantasy game. The fantasy game uses matches played during the 1999 ICC Cricket World Cup in England, May 14 - June 20, and can be accessed at (www.cricket.commissioner.com).
In the CricInfo Cricket Challenge, fantasy owners create their squads by selecting one player from each of the 12 competing nations in the World Cup tournament. The deadline for setting team rosters is noon ET on May 21. A fantasy team is comprised of five batsmen, two all rounders, one wicket keeper, and four bowlers. Points are earned for runs scored (1 point each), wickets taken (20 points), catches (5 points), and stumpings (5 points, wicket keepers only).
A grand prize of $500 cash will be awarded for the highest total points accumulated over the tournament, with $10,000 worth of cricket equipment awarded to 25 runners-up.
