I figured that I would update everyone on the latest movie news, interviews and reviews. I do miss having my movie show but I am still plugging away at all the interviews and you can catch them all right here on my blog. The funny thing is that I did book alot of interviews on my show but I have booked more without a show. I have no idea how that is physically possible.
Well, this past weekend, we had two horror flicks battling it out at the box office. "The Final Destination", which opened up with 27.4 million dollars, was thought to be the underdog this weekend, consdering Rob Zombie's "Halloween 2" was opening up against it. Zombie's first "Halloween" flick pulled in over $30 million in it's first weekend. I was in the minority and actually enjoyed Zombie's version of Carpenter's classic. Well, I guess people were so unhappy with his first film that roughly only half came back for the sequel. "Halloween 2" opened with $17 million in 3rd place, behind the second week of Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" (my favorite flick of the year."
Now, I want to give my official review of "The Final Destination 3D." I do want to say that I am a huge fan of this series. I know that the films have become progressively bad but for some reason, I am always intrigued as to how death will kill someone off. The first "Final Destination" film was actually a very well done movie. It was intense, violent and actually well written. At that point, it was a fresh concept. You have a kid whose going on a plane for a school field trip. He has a dream that the plane is going to explode and he ends up dragging most of his friends off the plane. The plane does end up exploding and he and a select few friends have now cheated death. The problem is that since they cheated death, they will now die in the order they were supposed to die on the plane. The second film dealt with a massive car crash on a highway and the third film was about roller coasters. Can you imagine getting stuck in the middle of a loop and falling out. Now with the fourth and "final" film, they decided to amp it up with a 3D camera. I did an interview with lead star, BOBBY CAMPO, and he told me that director David R. Ellis used James Cameron's new 3D camera to shoot this movie. This camera apparently is 2 cameras connected to one lense, which creates a more realistic 3D atmosphere. I will say that this film did have some of the best 3D I have seen on screen. This time around, the deaths revolve around a Nascar crash. The lead star, Bobby Campo, has a premonition while he his at a race with his friends. He drags his friends out and the crash happens. Now, everyone starts dying in the order they were supposed to die in the crash. Let's just say that film has over 11 death scenes and they are extremely brutal. There is actually a death scene that was stolen right out of a Chuck Palanhiuk short story called "Guts," which appeared in his book of short stories called "Haunted."
"The Final Destination" is one of the few films this year that is worth the price of admission. It is one of the scripts and displays of acting that I have seen in a while but that does not matter one bit. All you want to see in this movie are the 3D kills. The movie is only an hour and 22 minutes and I would say that 80% of that time are death scenes. The film is beautifully shot and it is just a fun time at the movies. I would say it is easily worth your money for a matinee.
