On A Personal Note

Those of you who know me well have probably noted my conspicous absense recently.  No, it is not due to the devastating defeat of my beloved Gators on Dec. 5th, and no, that has not caused me to turn to alcohol or anything else.  Last week was a busy week at work with our company league softball playoffs.  Then Friday rolled around, and my mom was put in the hospital.  My family knew her kidneys were failing for an unknown reason, and she was getting put on the transplant list and was set to have a catheter put in later this month to begin dialysis.  Well, her kidneys shut down much faster than expected and my family rushed her to the emergency room.  Trust me, you don't expect a call from your sister on Friday afternoon saying her doctor called extremely worried about her latest blood test.  She got an emergency catheter put in her, and has had two rounds of dialysis already.  And since she was there, they went a put the permanent one in her as well yesterday, which I gather is a much more lengthy procedure.  Couple this with high blood pressure and hypercalcimiea due to a thyroid problem, and well.  Fortunately, I only live 20 miles away, so was able to rush to the hospital Friday and visit her a few times since.  They were hoping to release her today, but with her secondary issues, needless to say I remain a little concerned.  At least the dialysis seems to be working, as when I talked on the phone with her Monday, she sounded much more like her normal self.  It was just amazing how quickly she became weak, and it began affecting things like her short term memory and concentration.  So, until she stabilizes more, unfortunately I will be spending a little less time in here.  I do promise to get back to my blog as soon as possible, however, and deliver the eulogy to the Gators season I'm sure many of you were looking forward to.  Take care, my friends, and I hope to be back counting, captioning, and blogging soon (probably in reverse order).

Thanks everyone for all the kind words and support.  Nice to see my humor and sports opinions have touched so many of you.  Unfortunately, she's still in the hospital, although they're optimistic she'll be released Friday.  She underwent a third session of dialysis today, and is scheduled to return on Saturdays and Tuesdays until the permanent cath is healed enough to do it at home.  Assuming everything goes well, I'll try to get in here on Sunday to catch up with 10TILTW.  Don't want to get too far behind and have to look everything up.  And I should be able to get back up to speed captioning after the new year.  Unfortunately, Christmas time is a very busy time for me at work.  No matter what, I've always relied on my sense of humor to bring laughter to others and myself, and I really miss stopping in, Joe.  Everybody does such a great job, and it's a wonderful way to relieve the stress of work.  And thanks for stopping by and relating your own experiences.  I do wish all of you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and look forward to catching up soon.

On A Personal Note

As someone whose own mother went through dialysis and transplant, I definitely know the situation you're in. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. And try to stay positive... kidney transplant is truly one area of medicine that has improved in recent times. Making matches isn't nearly as hard as it was 10-15 years ago. One of my uncles got a kidney from his own wife a couple years ago, and another uncle got one from his daughter in law (kidney disease runs in the family).

You'll be missed until things settle down.

With your lenghty absence I was hoping you were just routinely busy.  Very sorry to hear about your Mother.  She will be in my prayers as well as you and your family.  We look forward to you coming back and letting us know she is well.  Until then take care of the important things, we can wait.  Be strong for her and your family, and God bless.

Buc, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.  Just got back from the nursing home after spending two hours with Dad.  He has dialysis three times a week.  The even put in a tube in his arm called a fistula (hopefullly I spelled that correctly) to give the clinid better access.  It leaes him weak and chilled every time.  The important thing is it does a marvelous job of cleaning the toxins from the blood.  Send me a post if you need someone to talk to about it,  I know what you're going through.

It won't be easy but you have other siblings to lean on and other family mambers for support too.  I hope all turns out well for her.

We'll wait for your blogs when you're ready to go.  Sure wish Florida was playing TCU or Boise instead.  Those teams sure wanted to play someone other than each other.

Wow, Buc. What a powerful blog there. I hope everything turns out fine with your mom. I always hate to hear anything like that from any of my friends on here. My thoughts and prayers are definately with you and your family.

Man, now you made me feel bad for picking on you in the Caption blog while you were away. I apologize in advance of you reading them. It wasn't too bad...really.

Please keep us informed at how things are going with your mom. All of us are here if you need us to make you laugh.
