morning after: thoughts on chargers vs. jets

Ok, so now i remember what it feels like to be rooting for a winning team, and boy does it feel good. The Chargers finally won a game last night against the Jets and they didnt just win, they dominated in every facet of the game. They were better on offense and defense, though not on special teams. Now here are my thoughts on what the bolts did good and what they could improve on.

Philip Rivers is the team mvp this season, and it is not close. He opens up the game by throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown, this causes him to have a bad game, right? Wrong! He had a great game from then on, relying on mostly the short game to get things going then used the deep throw when the defense got too tight. He threw for another 3 touchdowns putting his season total to 9, after just three games. He has really stepped it up this season and has great chemistry with all the receivers. Also Antonio Gates seems to be just fine folks, so i wouldnt be worried about the toe.

I did have one question offensively, why did we keep LaDainian Tomlinson in so long? We had a pretty comfortable lead in the 4th quarter, yet for some reason LT stayed in, my question is for what reason? I mean why not just take him out and let him get some rest for next week, I dont know what norv was thinking, I'm just glad he didnt get hurt. But overall it was a great game offensively

Defensively this was our best game yet, by far. The front three played much better than they did against the Panthers and Broncos and were able to stop the run all night. Also we were able to put much more pressure on Brett Favre, sacking him three times and forcing him to make dumb throws. The secondary played well, especially Antonio Cromartie, who had a major bounce back game. He had two ints, including one great one where he batted the ball up, caught it, then took it to the house. The secondary was able to force a number of incompletions and never let a jet get very open. Great job defensively.

On special teams we did not play very well, but that was a minor concern and i think the bolts special team will be just fine. Although Kassim Osgood is having a very quite year.

Just one random observation, how ridiculous was that two point conversion that was attempted by the jets i think 4 times(correct me if im wrong) I mean its like the refs were looking for ways to keep it going, and in the end the jets didnt score. So HAHA!

Overall great game by the chargers and i am looking forward to us hopefully getting win number two against the Raiders. RAIDERS SUCK! RAIDERS SUCK!

Not to take away from a dominant Chargers performance, because it was...  But I think Mangini gave the worst soaching performance I've seen in quite awhile - and that's saying a lot because I've been watching Rob Ryan the last too many years and just saw Art Shell/Mike White two seasons ago!

I don't understand why he din't take the field goal on 4th and long.  He really didn't have enough faith that his running game could gain less than a foot on the 2 pt...

All wouldn't have mattered though, because nothing the Jets could do defensively even came close to stopping the Chargers.  Good showing, here's hoping you guys shelve it next week but bing it back out for the next Bronco game (see, I merely don't like the Chargers, but the Broncos I despise).

Enjoy your season.

I don't get why the Jets didn't run in the 2 point conversion from an eyelash away from the line. Maybe all the heat they took from running 4 consecutive times last week got to Mangini?
