preview week 5: chargers vs dolphins

Posted on: October 5, 2008 12:53 am

So the Chargers are sitting at 2-2, the record is a bit deceiving since they are about one bad call(hoculi) from being 3-1, and here comes the Dolphins for what appears to be an easy win. But to be honest this game scares me to death, because its the perfect trap game. As bolts fans there has been one game we have been looking forward to: the game against the Patriots. And i know the players feel the same way, i just hope they stay focused on the present and dont get wrapped up in whats ahead. Because this miami team could surprise us if we look past them. Here is how i see the game playing out

Philip Rivers did not have his best game against the Raiders, but i see him bouncing back majorly against the phins and passing for 2-3 touchdowns with 300-350 yards. His main target will be Chris Chambers who will be determined to show the dolphins how foolish they were to let him go, big day for chambers. LaDainian Tomlinson is slowly but surely getting better and i actually think he could have a decent game here with maybe 100 yards total and a touchdown. Darren Sproles will have some action but overall will make his mark in the return game where he excels and in the short passing game.

The bolts d really stepped up last week as they were able to stop the raiders several times in what should have been sure fire touchdowns. I think the defense is finally starting to get its act together and i see them limiting Ronnie Brown and trying to put pressure on Chad Pennington. A positive thing for the defense is the fact that stephen cooper is finally returning and should help the defense since derek smith has done a below average job in replacing him. the defensive line added more pressure then usual and i expect them to do the same this week.

Overall the dolphins are overmatched by the bolts in offense and in defense so i dont think this one will be close if the chargers just stay focused.

Final Score: chargers 28, dolphins 10

I think the Chargers just learned what the Dallas Cowboys found out last week.  You have to commit to a running game.  Darren Sproles six rushes and LaDainian Tomlinson's 12 rushes for 35 yards isn't going to cut it.  Phillip Rivers did not have a good game either (13 for 28 totaling 159 yards) which didn't help set up the running game.  One thing we learned is the Dolphins are not the same team they were last year and that Wildcat formation has Defensive Coordinators up at night.
