I know its a few days late, but I am now going to talk about what I think of the firing of Chargers defensive coordinator ted cottrell. I think it was very necessary for ted to be fired, he really hasnt done too much for this team. He trys too many zone coverages and weird blitz packages, and when neither proved effective the other team would just have a field day against our defense. I think AJ made the clear choice in firing him because the main reason the bolts are 3-5 is the defense, not the offense which is actually doing quite well.
Another thing I liked about this was the timing, because he did right when the bolts hit the bye week so that they wouldnt have to try and learn the new system rivera has placed in less than a week. Instead they get two weeks to learn it and then they get to play the very weak Chiefs which should be an easy win even for the chargers.
But what I am most happy about is the promotion of Ron Rivera, this guy was an absolute genius for the chicago Bears and made their defense very good, and when he left their defense suffered for the whole next season. So i really think he is going to come in and get the defense to start playing some tough football and making plays that they just havent made so far this season. He will provide the fresh approach this defense so desperately needs.
Overall I think the firing was the smart thing to do and hopefully this will provide the spark from the bolts that they so clearly need. And also lets hope that LaDainian Tomlinson continues to play well and leaves his toe injury in the past.
