wild card preview: colts vs bolts

I still cant believe it, the san diego Chargers actually made it to the playoffs. A month ago, or even two or three weeks ago, the idea of the bolts making the playoffs seemed farfetched. Yet being three games behind the Broncos with only three games left in the season, the chargers were able to make the playoffs and avenge their week 2 loss by creaming the broncos in week 17 with the division title on the line. But I can only dwell on this for a moment, because now the chargers have to play the indianapolis Colts, lead by likely mvp Peyton Manning. Here are my thoughts on the game:

If the past two seasons have been any indication, this game will be close, everytime these teams have met in the past two seasons it has been a close game decided late in the fourth quarter. Now the chargers have won 3 of the last 4, but the colts won this season, on a last second field goal by adam vinateri. I think this game will also be very close since these teams both seem to have a good feel for the other and seem to match up well.

For the chargers offense, look for Philip Rivers to lead the offense and have another big game, the colts d is not as strong as it used to be and rivers was one of the best qbs this season. For the running game look for there to be a very balanced attack between LaDainian Tomlinson and Darren Sproles, due to LT's injury. Also look for both running backs to get involved in the passing game, especially on screen passes, which the chargers have used alot lately. I feel like this will be a good game for the offense and they should do well against the colts d.

Now on defense there could be problems, the d has been playing better under ron rivera, but its still far from perfect. My biggest concern is the lack of a pass rush, because if peyton manning is given a lot of time, he will destroy us. The defensive line is going to have to step up and put some pressure on manning so he is forced to throw it earlier than he would like. Now the chargers should not have too much trouble stopping the running game since the colts have one of the worst rushing attacks in the league, at least statistically. The main concern of the d has to be stopping the pass, if they do that, they stop the entire offense

Overall I think this has the makings to be a great game and i think its gonna come down to the wire. But in the end I think the chargers will have the edge because of their superior running game

Final Score: Chargers 35 - Colts 31
