New Orleans goes into Washington this week and is looking to go 2-0 on the season while at the same time dropping new Head Coach Jim Zorn to a 0-2 start in his head coaching rookie season. Here is a breakdown of the matchups this week.
Quarterback - Advantage Saints
Jason Campbell is not comfortable with his new offense. Until he becomes more familiar with it, this offense will struggle.
Running Back - Advantage SAINTS
Portis played well week 1, but this team looks like it will be playing from behind for much of the season. Which means less running attack.
Wide Receivers - Advantage SAINTS
Some may question this opinion, (being that Colston is out for the game) but this goes back to the quarterback situation being what it is. Not to mention Reggie Bush is a terror out of the backfield, and David Patten and Devery Henderson will step it up.
TE - Advantage SAINTS
Yes, Shockey and Cooley are quite equal. However, SEE QUARTERBACK SITUATION. Not to mention Shockey has to be ready to feast on the NFC EAST one more time.
OLINE - PUSH
Both are decent, But Campbell will hold on to the ball a bit longer than Brees which will lead to the Saints giving up less sacks.
DLINE- Advantage SAINTS
Much improved Defensive Line with the addition of Sed' Ellis. They will get to Campbell quite a bit this week.
Both teams have quality Line Backers. This would generally go to the Redskins, But I am big on Vilma.
Secondary- Advantage REDSKINS
Finally a ray of light for Washington fans, Although Landry got terrorized by Brandon Jacobs and the skins dropped a few interceptions last week, have to give the edge to them here, although it is not by much.
Special Teams - PUSH
Randel-El and Bush are both dangerous in the return game. Lance Moore could be the X-Factor.
Overall the Saints matchup very well with Washington. I believe this game will be closer than these matchups allow for but only because Washington is at home. Check back for my post game thoughts.
