In 4 divisions, the 2nd place team is still chasing the 1st place team for the title.  Will they catch them?

AL EAST

The Boston Red Sox are 2.5 games back of the TB Rays.  TB has a double header today, and Sox are up against Cliff Lee (22-2)....could be 4 games back by the end of the night.

AL Central

The Minnesota Twins are keeping pace with the White Sox but are still 2.5 games back.  They start a 3 game set today which most likely will determine the outcome of this race.  Minnesota realistically needs to take all 3 to control their own destiny.

NL EAST

The Mets, losers of 3 straight, are slipping.  2.5 games back of the Phillies and in danger of losing the Wild Card lead.

NL West

The Dodgers lead the Diamondbacks by only 2 games.  Both teams have been eliminated from Wild Card contention.  So it's win the division or go home.  This race will likely come down to the wire.  Should be a good one to watch.

Wild Card?

In the NL, the Brewers are neck and neck with the faltering Mets.

The Houston Astros, Florida Marlins, and St. Louis Cardinals are still mathematically alive despite my earlier predictions.

In the AL, the Yankees live for one more day.  A loss by them or a win by the Sox reduces the WC race to the loser of the AL East race.

Will the Yanks still be alive when they go to Boston later this week?   Time will tell......but if you ask me...I highly doubt it.

Rays held off the Red Sox by winning both ends of their double header extending their lead to 3 games.  But with the Red Sox's win, the Yankees are officially done.

Twins won the 1st of 3 against Chicago...a step in the right direction for them.

Mets won- eliminating the Cardinals and the Marlins, and gaining ground on the Phillies.

Dodgers extended their lead over the Diamondbacks to 3.  That could be the nail in the coffin for Arizona.

Brewers still only 1 game behind the Mets for the WC, while the Astros lost some major ground after losing last night.  Houston needs a win tonight, or they could be done.

It Is Almost Here and I can actually care, because  the Rays are finally there. The Rays are trying to win the division and hold of the Hot Red Sox. They should it will be an interesting week to unfold. I think baseball this year has been great, without alot of negatives. There is no Bonds and Clemens saga. The only negative is the differences in maple or ash bats and the way the commish didn't handle the Astros situation. It is funny how the crack down on HGH and Steriods ,and look how very low the HR's total are! It shows baseball is now a level playing field except the salary cap issue. The month of October is almost here and I can't wait to go to a Playoff game in Tampa!! Go Rays!!
