Fairy-tale ending still possible for Chargers

Posted on: December 22, 2008 10:58 am

With the 41-24 romp over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium, the Chargers put some big-time heat on the Broncos, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The Buffalo Bills came into Denver and defeated the Broncos 30-23 Sunday.

With the Broncos' defeat, the stage is set for an improbable showdown with the Chargers next Sunday at Qualcomm Stadium. The Chargers improved to 7-8 with the victory over Tampa Bay, though typically, there were times when it looked like San Diego's season would end before that final date with Denver.

Philip Rivers, who was snubbed for the Pro Bowl despite the fact that he's led the NFL in passer rating nearly all season played extremely well. By halftime alone, he'd thrown for 201 yards, and a 20-10 lead. He finished 21-of-31 for 287 yards without an interception.

Fairy-tale ending still possible for Chargers

With the Chargers in the Playoff's after dismantling the Broncos Sunday Night, anything is possible. Every team in the playoff's are 0-0, just a regular season record showing how they got there. With that being said, the Chargers can go either direction all depending on their defense on how it clicks down the stretch. The Chargers have shown in the past four games that they belong in the playoff's, the proof is how they managed the ball against their division foes and a playoff contender turned pretender. It will be all up to them prove they can go further, and like any other Charger fan, I believe that they will even against a surging Colts team of nine straight games. Saturday's contest will be a learning curve for both teams, if the Chargers prevail, they will learn that they started the season with just a bad streak of luck.

Fairy-tale ending still possible for Chargers

I am not a Chargers fan, but I would like to see San Diego make the playoffs.  Phillip Rivers has played great football all season, and the fact that he got snubbed in the Pro Bowl is ridiculous(should have made it over Brett Favre and Jay Cutler)  The first two games of the season killed the Chargers, especially the loss to Denver.  This weekend they get the chance to pay them back AND win the division.  The fact that they will make it to the playoffs without their best defensive player is an attribute to the team.  I know they havent been GREAT this season, but with Rivers and Tomlinson I think anything could be possible for them in the playoffs.  I am not saying they will make it to the Super Bowl, but as good as Rivers has been playing I wouldnt want to play them the first round of the playoffs.
