The Buffalo News reports that the Bills are conducting a "comprehensive" search for a new head coach and might be willing to shell out top dollar for a big name.
That could include the likes of Bill Cowher , Mike Shanahan , Mike Holmgren or Brian Billick , although the story notes that the team has yet to contact any of those former NFL coaches about a vacancy. It's also possible that the process will be a long one, since any big-name coaching candidate considering the Bills job could decide to wait until the end of the season to see what other opportunities may open up.
Former Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden is believed to be out of the running for a coaching position for the near future due to his recent signing of a new deal with ESPN to remain a TV analyst.
The Bills fired head coach Dick Jauron after 3 1/2 seasons with the franchise on Nov. 17.
