Cribbs' deal with Browns worth up to $20 million

Posted on: March 5, 2010 4:33 pm

The Cleveland Browns signed Pro Bowl returner Josh Cribbs to a three-year deal worth up to $20 million on Friday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.

The deal replaces the three years that remained on his previous contract and includes about $7.5 million guaranteed, the newspaper reported.

"It's a win-win for everyone involved,'' agent Peter Schaffer told the Plain Dealer. "It's a great statement by the new regime. It shows that the Browns are committed to winning -- and that they were willing to take care of their best player.''

Cribbs' deal with Browns worth up to $20 million

That's a lot for a returner, but I guess they probably front loaded it (if they're smart anyway) since there's no cap this year.  The rule is you can sign them for up to a third more the first year, so just give him 2/3rds of that this year and then the rest the next 2 years won't even hit the cap much.

I like Cribbs but he doesn't really have all that much value to winning.  Your best player can't be a returner or punter or you're in really bad shape.

They needed to keep him... Yes they do need a QB, especially now. Don't forget, Cribbs played RB, WR, and QB in college. Now as a special teamer, he is just as explosive every time there is a kick return (which is a lot) or a punt return.

Cribbs' deal with Browns worth up to $20 million

Regardless of the kick returns, rushes, receptions, and passes he could break up if they put him on defense, he could throw 3 passes a game and still be better than Jamarcus Russell.  So yeah, he should be getting paid that much.

Cribbs' deal with Browns worth up to $20 million

Cribbs is basically the browns franchise guy.  They need his play making ability to set up the offense with a short field. or the browns dont score.  Hopefully they get sam bradford or Joe haden in the draft.

I agree. Maybe Cribbs can play QB, catch his own passes, and run his own tosses, pitches, and sweeps. And if he isn't too tired, they could really use some help in the defensive backfield. Do you think maybe you can help with that Cribbs? LOL

On a serious note, Cribbs deserved to be paid, the Browns would not win a game without his positiveness and professionalism.

Commited to winning and you sign a punt returnerLaughing   Don't they need a QB, a receiver or two. Maybe an O-lineman and some defensive guys...Love the commitment, they could have filled more holes if they traded him.

Way to Go Brownies!
